Philippe Dauman is the Chairman and CEO of PPD Investments, LLC, his family investment entity. He was President and Chief Executive Officer of Viacom Inc. from September 2006 to August 2016. He left his post as Executive Chairman of Viacom in September 2016. He served on the Company’s Board of Directors from 1987 to 2016.
Under Philippe’s leadership, Viacom became the #1 family of cable networks with the largest and most valuable audiences, and the #1 destination on all of television for reaching younger audiences, with leading brands including Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, MTV, VH1, Paramount Network, BET, CMT, TV Land, Nick at Nite, Nick Jr., Channel 5 (UK), and Paramount Pictures, America’s oldest film studio.
Philippe was integral to the original acquisition of Viacom in 1987 and the purchase of Paramount in 1994. As CEO, Philippe led the development of Viacom’s international business, which comprised 170 networks in 180 countries and doubled Viacom’s investment in creative programming. Philippe oversaw the acquisition and development of key businesses, including Channel 5 in the UK, EPIX, The Paramount Channel, and Colors, the #1 general entertainment channel in India. Under Philippe’s leadership, the company was an early adopter of digital platforms and consumer-centric distribution strategies and created the industry’s leading data-driven advertising products and integrated marketing capabilities.
Previously, Mr. Dauman was Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DND Capital Partners, LLC, a private equity firm specializing in media and telecommunications investments, from May 2000 until September 2006. Prior to co-founding DND Capital Partners, Mr. Dauman served in several positions at Viacom, including as a Deputy Chairman and Executive Vice President of Viacom Inc. Prior to 1993, Mr. Dauman was a partner at the law firm of Shearman & Sterling.
Mr. Dauman is a former director of CBS Corporation; Spelling Entertainment; Lafarge S.A. and Holcim, world leaders in building materials; The Tennis Channel, which he co-founded; the National Cable and Telecommunications Association; and The Paley Center for Media. Mr. Dauman was a member of the Executive Committee of the Partnership for New York City and served as Co-Chair of the Partnership in 2014 and 2015. Mr. Dauman also served on the Executive Committee of the Lenox Hill Hospital, as well as the Board of Trustees of Northwell Health, and the Dean’s Council of Columbia University Law School. He is also a former Board member of the KIPP Foundation, a national network of free, open-enrollment, college preparatory public schools in underserved communities. Mr. Dauman is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He is also President and Treasurer of The Philippe and Deborah Dauman Foundation, which focuses on education and health.
Mr. Dauman earned his bachelor's degree from Yale College and his law degree from Columbia University Law School.
Philippe Dauman Jr. is the President and COO of PPD Investments, LLC and leads our New York City office. He joined as a full time executive in 2024 after working extensively with the firm since 2018 under contract with his investment and management services firm, PPD Management, LLC. Philippe brings over 20 years of investment experience and over 15 years of operating experience building technology businesses.
Prior to founding PPD Management, Philippe co-founded Tray, which develops and deploys self-service checkout technology. From 2014 to 2016, he was Director of Commerce at Twitter, where he built Twitter’s Commerce specialty and launched several products that allowed users to seamlessly transact with brands and influencers without leaving the platform.
In 2010, Philippe helped launch Google’s newly-formed Commerce Business Unit and bring to market the first smartphone tap-to-pay product in the United States. He went on to become Head of Merchant Partnerships for Google Wallet Instant Buy, where he was responsible for growing what is now Google Pay. Before joining the Commerce Team, Philippe was the global coordinator for local content acquisition, responsible for improving coverage of Google’s local search and map results worldwide, including their initial launch in several countries.
Philippe is also currently the Executive Vice President of The Philippe and Deborah Dauman Foundation, which focuses on education and health.
Philippe received his JD and MBA degrees from Columbia University and a BA in English from Yale.
